Licensing form

The library is free, but a donation would be welcome.

Version 1.7.0 and later

With version 1.7.0 the licensing form was changed to that of zlib. Which means that you are now allowed to statically link to the library without having to open source your project.

Version 1.0.0 to 1.6.1b

Versions 1.0.0 to 1.6.1b are released as free software under the terms of GNU Lesser General Public License as published by the Free Software Foundation; either version 2.1 of the License, or (at your option) any later version. This basically means that you are free to use the library as a dynamically loaded library, and if you make modifications to the library you are obliged to release the source code for it to the public.
